Sleep difficulties are very common among children and young people with additional needs.

Neurodivergent children and young people often have trouble sleeping for a variety of reasons, including sensory differences, difficulties switching off, differences in body clocks, and co-occurring health conditions.

Your child may also have learning difficulties, a genetic condition, vision or hearing impairment, complex medical needs, mental health difficulties, or a combination of several different needs.

Perhaps they struggle to fall asleep, wake frequently in the night, wake very early in the morning, have poor quality sleep, or seem to need much less sleep than other children their age.

You may feel as though you have tried everything. Perhaps you have followed advice that works for other families but simply doesn't fit your child's needs. You may have been told that your child's sleep difficulties are just part of their condition, leaving you unsure what can realistically be improved.

Sleep difficulties can affect every aspect of family life. Parents often feel exhausted and overwhelmed, struggling to function in daily life and at work.

I am a Chartered Child and Educational Psychologist and sleep specialist, with extensive training and experience in supporting children and young people with a wide range of additional needs.

I take a holistic approach: rather than looking at sleep in isolation, I help families understand how sleep fits alongside their child's other needs, work out what is realistic, and identify practical ways to improve sleep and family life.

I understand how challenging sleep difficulties can be for families who already have such a lot to manage. We work together on a plan to improve sleep and we move at your pace, based on your capacity to make changes.

How it works

We start with a consultation to assess the sleep difficulties, understand how they relate to your child’s other needs, and work out what will help. Depending on the situation, we may decide that further follow-up support or direct work with your child would be helpful.

The consultation is focused on sleep, but takes account of the wider picture. I may ask for information in advance, such as a sleep diary, and I will read any documents you are happy to share relating to your child’s needs.

I am also happy to liaise with schools and other professionals involved in your child's care where this would be helpful.

Online consultation of 60 - 90 minutes.

Follow-up Consultation £90

Online consultation of up to 45 minutes.

Sessions with young people are £95 per 50-minute session, arranged on an individual basis.
